What do we mean by Design for Sustainability?
For product innovation, it implies that companies incorporate environmental and social factors into product development throughout the life cycle of the product, throughout the supply chain, and with respect to their socio-economic surroundings (from the local community for a small company, to the global market for a transnational company).
For service innovation, a systems thinking approach using Life Cycle Management (LCM) is applied to the business practice with the aim of providing more sustainable goods and services. It seeks to improve the sustainability of an organisation’s portfolio(s) across the entire life cycle and value chain.
